Jewel Rose

Jewel Rose was born August 21, 1921 at Pocahontas, Arkansas to J.T. and Mae Hunter. She was doted on by her older brother, Dewey and later they were joined by brother Bill. As a young girl Jewel always loved fixing hair for people and after graduation from high school she attended Beauty School. One day while taking a break from class with a friend, they looked down from a second story window onto the town square and spied two young men pitching baseballs. One in particular held her attention. They joined the young men on the street and that is how Jewel met her future husband and the love of her life, P.K. Rose. They married on July 14th 1942, and P.K. was soon shipped off to war. Jewel joined the Coast Guard while waiting for her husband to come home. She was stationed in New York, Washington State and Washington D. C. When P.K. returned from the war they bought a house in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas where he joined his father in the Allis Chalmers tractor business. They were members of the First Baptist Church. Jewel and P.K. had two children, Larry who lives in Rogersville, MO with his wife Connie. Their daughter Lisa and her husband, Gerardo live in Hallandale Beach, Florida. While raising the children, they often vacationed on Lake Norfork in Arkansas where Jewel learned to be a great water skier. They were also golfers. Jewel has been an avid gardener and spent much time with the Walnut Ridge Garden Club. She was a member of the Walnut Ridge Quilt Club and won many ribbons for the beautiful quilts she made. Jewel has traveled extensively. On one of these trip she won a deep sea fishing tournament on Miami Beach. While visiting her daughter in Peru during her 60’s, she climbed in the Andes Mountains. While snorkeling in the Florida Keys, she had a shark swim between her legs. Jewel has been active, even in retirement. She delivered Meals on Wheels while in her mid 80’s. If asked, she would probably say that her greatest joy is her 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. After living in Walnut Ridge in the same house for 50 years, she moved to Missouri to be near family, where she spent the rest of her life. Robert Combs officiating. Pallbearers will be, Gerardo Cuneo, Houston Hart, Paul Tyler, Ron Hagen, Jarrod Rose, and Blaine LaRue.
