John Gilbert Holt Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

John Gilbert Holt, 80 of Hoxie passed away December 7, 2021, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell, MO. Born January 13, 1941, in Manila to the late L.K. Holt and Grace (Isbell) Holt. He was united in marriage to Linda Gilliam on September 16, 1978. He served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the U.S.S. Wasp during the Bay of Pigs Conflict. He was employed and retired from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. He was a member of the Hoxie United Methodist Church and of the Aurora Masonic Lodge #423 in Walnut Ridge. John enjoyed collecting trains, coins and knives; he also was active outdoors, gardening and fishing. John also loved using his woodworking talents to make special gifts for friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Mark Adam Holt; one brother, Tim Holt and a sister, Anita Wright. Survivors include his wife, Linda Holt of the home; one son, Greg Holt of Memphis, TN; one daughter, Stephanie (Bob) Surmon of LaMirada, CA; three grandchildren, Hunter (Sara) Holt, John and Daniel Surmon; one great granddaughter, Nora Lee-Ann Holt; one brother, L.K. Holt Jr. of Snow Lake, AR; five sisters, Rosa Lee (Sam) Bollinger of Manila, Louise Roddy of Jonesboro, Nancy (Danny) Williams of Mableville, AR, Jane (Johnny) Gaither of Cherokee Village, and Ann (Tony) Berry of Hardy; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be Friday, December 10, 2021, at 2 P.M. in the Hoxie United Methodist Church with Chaplain Larry Sellers officiating. Pallbearers will be Eddie Wright, Ted Holt, Jeff Barber, Mark Pyle, Jimmy Isbell, and Lonnie Smith. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. R. Lee Archer, Dr. Nathan Turney, and all fellow employees of the BNSF Railroad. Interment will follow in the Lawrence Memorial Park with Military Honors rendered by the Navy Honor Guard and concluded with Masonic rites. Visitation will be from 12 P.M. till 2 P.M. in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials requested to be made to the UAMS Department of Neurology.
