Paul "Buddy" H. Doty Jr.

July 21, 1951 - March 21, 2020

Paul H. Doty Jr. (Buddy) passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020 in Jonesboro from carcinoid cancer. He was born July 21, 1951 and lived his entire life in Walnut Ridge, a community he loved. He was a graduate of Walnut Ridge High School and Arkansas State University. Buddy was a lifelong farmer and businessman. He advised and mentored many young farmers through the years. Buddy began farming with his father as a teen. As a young adult, he established a real-estate company and helped found Northeast Arkansas Seed Company. Over the years he served on many committees including the Intermodal Board, Water Board, Farm Bureau, and the First National Bank Board of Directors. He was honored to be selected as a finalist for the Young Farmers and Ranchers in 1975. In 1996, Buddy and his family were selected as the Lawrence County Farm Family of the Year. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Walnut Ridge. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen Doty. He is survived by his wife, Jane of the home, his daughter, Emily Richey (Heath), son, J. Paul Doty (Amber), three grandchildren, Emma and Riley Richey, and Cannon Dail all of Walnut Ridge; and his sister, Susan Dudley of Franklin, TN; two nieces, Sara Campbell (Will) of Nashville, TN and Claire Matthews (Robert) of Brentwood, TN; and many other relatives and friends. Buddy was a kind and generous person to all. Those whom he helped know that on a personal level. He was proud of his family and enjoyed his grandchildren immensely. He treasured his time at the lake with family and friends, trips to Walt Disney World, and family holidays. He will be missed every day and thought of often. Out of an abundance of caution for others and compliance with current health safety guidelines, there will be a private family graveside service. Memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church of Walnut Ridge, The Children’s Shelter of Walnut Ridge, The Lawrence County Library or the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation. Please leave your condolences and memories for the family to see on Buddy's Tribute Wall.
