Robert Baxter

Robert “Bob” Baxter, 91 of Walnut Ridge died July 12, 2019 at the Lawrence Hall Nursing Center. Born November 21, 1927 in McDonald, Kansas son of the late William and Bertha Copper Baxter. He was united in marriage to June Kline in 1949. He was a U.S Army Veteran serving in Greenland during WWII. He worked for 40 years as an airplane mechanic for Frontier Airlines, then Air Cal and American Airlines. He learned to speak Spanish and to sail in Baja, Mexico. He has also snow-skied and played golf. In his mid-40s in Denver, Baxter took up bicycling the mountains on an aluminum bike. He and his wife toured the country on motorcycles, and he has also learned to cook and sew over the years. His other personal interests are varied. He talks to people all over the world as a ham radio operator and is fluent in Morse code. He enjoys reading and reads about three novels each week, often donating the books to the library when he finishes them. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 59 years, June; and a sister, Nancy Smith. Survivors include his two daughters, Linda (Jesse) Roberts and Lucia (Gary) Brown; four grandsons, Roy, Rodney, Gary and Brian; one great grandson, Brent Brown; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. His quote “You take the cards life deals you and play them the best you can.” No Services will be held.
